The "Gold Standard": Navigating Your Liver Biopsy

A liver biopsy is often described as the "gold standard" for diagnosing complex hepatic conditions. While imaging like CT scans or MRIs can show the shape of your liver, a biopsy allows pathologists to examine the actual cellular architecture—the only way to truly distinguish between different types of inflammation, scarring (fibrosis), or cellular changes.

Why It Is Performed

Beyond simple diagnosis, a biopsy acts as a biological roadmap. It is primarily used for:


Staging: Measuring the extent of scarring, from F0 (no scarring) to F4 (cirrhosis).
